Afternoon Nap

I was actually prettty impressed that I managed to tire out two border collies last weekend lol!  And although they did play...I really did keep them busy!  By Sunday afternoon they both wanted naps, Dakota put herself 'down for a nap' like this...

So cute!  So funny! 

She went to her new home on Tuesday, the flight was a little overwhelming for her and it was a bit of a rough start.  Poor girl.  But she now has a little brother to play with, and a fantastic home that will give her lots of love and physical/mental stimulation...she's going to play agility!  I have a special place in my heart for this little gal, and I'm happy she is settling into her furever home.

A lil Neena & Dakota

Since the Training Troop trial I've been trying to expose Neena to as many different places/situations as I can.  We walk beside busy streets, through parking lots, by the gun range, having another dog around sure helps!  This weekend I also had Dakota, a PDCR rescue that will be going to her furever home on Tuesday!  She is super sweet and VERY smart, she is going to be a fantastic agility dog! 

Dakota has also come a long way in a very short period of time, she had a very hard time meeting new people when I first met her.  

Adoption Fair

I'm sure at some point I mentioned this, but I've been a volunteer for the Prairie Dog Canine Rescue for some time now.  Initially I started as a foster home, I was very fortunate to get to spend a few weeks or months with Rika, Max, Sadie and Tessa.  Just under a year ago I started helping with adoptions and let me tell you, rescue is NEVER boring. 

Anyways, Saturday we hosted an Adoption Fair. Our rescue doesn't have a 'location', and our dogs are kept in foster homes, so its sometimes hard for people to meet the dogs and adoption fairs are one way we've found to make it easier.  Unfortunately Saturday was fricken cold...even with my holy-crap its cold socks my feet were frozen by the end of the day...probably didn't help that our heaters kept blowing the breaker lol!  Regardless many people still made it down and overall I really thought it was a successful day for us!

For fundraisers some of the girls put together really awesome calendars of past PDCR dogs...I might mention Neena got her OWN page...spoilt lol!  Bobbi also made PDCR cookbooks that included both human and doggie recipies...yummy!

 

We are always fortunate to get lots of support from local businesses for the raffle table.

One of our foster families coordinated a bake sale, there were LOTS of yummy items up for sale!

We tried something new with a sealed auction this time.

We also had a few vendors set up a table to sell their goodies...one was a homemade soap vendor, we also had a pet photographer, a flyball club and homemade doggie treats to name a few.

To top it off, we had a few dogs go to fabulous homes...I made a few follow up calls last night and it was great to hear they are settling in.  And that's what its all about.

Odd & Unusual

A racing buddy of mine asked how Neena got her name...I realized I had never blogged Neena's story!

When Neena was 12 weeks old she was sold with two littermates at the Picture Butte Odd & Unusual Sale. At the end of the day her siblings were purchased, however Neena was not...so her 'owner' left her there! Fortunately Donna (the person who I did the chicken clicken with!) was at the auction, and when she realized Neena had been abandoned she decided to take her home. Donna called Amanda who at the time was working with the Prairie Dog Canine Rescue and asked if they'd be willing to take Neena into the rescue. A few days later Sarah and Amanda drove to Donna's to pick her her up...let me tell you...Amanda loves to tell how Neena rode home on her lap...and Sarah loves to tell how she asked if she could be called Neena! From what I understand 'Neena' was supposed to be Gyp's name...but if you've ever met Gyp you know why Neena just wouldn't have worked for her lol!

Around the same time we started talking about whether we should get a dog or not...I'd never had an indoor dog and was worried it would be too much responsibility/change...it was a big decision! In November the rescue had their first ever adoption fair and my brother and I headed down to check it out...both of us noticed Neena right away, she was curled up and sleeping under a chair. We thought she was so sweet...however she had been adopted and we weren't quite ready to make a decision anyways...so we checked out a few more dogs and left. I kept watching the blog, waiting for the 'right' dog to catch my interest...I actually remember thinking Sophie's puppies were very cute but I wasn't sure I was ready for a puppy! In the middle of December I saw that Neena was being returned...I knew right away I wanted to meet her so I got in contact with Amanda and set up a meeting. We met a couple times and talked about Neena and what kind of home she would need, we also took her for a little walk. To this day I don't know what Amanda saw in us, I knew next to NOTHING about having a dog, let alone a border collie...but she let us adopt Neena and it changed my life!

So we did miss the very cute puppy stage with Neena, thanks to Sarah, Amanda and Wendy I have lots of very cute photo's of baby Neena...I just want to squeeze her lol!

Sarah took this photo of Neena...she is fittingly standing on an agility table. I still see this face from time to time...its the "you'd better take me for a walk or I'm gonna shred something" look.

Ahhh...I love me some Neena!
